I made this after poetry night when i read a poem that eveyone refered to as the "dyke poem" and no one commented on its quality, just that it was cool cuz it was about dykes..i was a bit angered by that

...I'm afraid I have to say that dyke *is* a dirty word. It's an insult, and I'd rather be called gay, or lesbian. I've been caled dyke in a way that was just... "oh, are you a freak?" replacing freak with dyke is not how we want to be known.

well see, thats sort of my point, dyke, *is* used in a derogitory manner. but It shouldn't be. I happen to like to word dyke. I laugh when people call me a dyke, its never bothered me. But this peice was just in reaction the people thinking that since I used the word "dyke" in my poem, i must be some sort of relvoutionary or sumthing. I don't know I was just pissed off. :)

Dyke is ment to be used as an insult by the ignorant, but if you don't take it as an insult eventually it wont be an insult. Sort of a little reverse phsycology. If you say your proud to be a dyke then how will it be insulting if someone says your a dyke, its no different then someone saying your a lesbian. When someone calls me a dyke I say "Thanks for the reminder I almost forgot, tell your girlfriend to gimme a call tonight"lol or something around that to where it is funny yet confusing to the ignorant hetero. Once it is known that word is no long insulting to you you will hear it less and less and eventually not at all.
